Extend your range and learn to plan and execute deep dives up to 40 meters, taking into account no-decompression limits and gas consumption.
The Deep Diving specialization is designed for certified divers who wish to explore deeper areas of the underwater world and already possess sufficient experience in trim and buoyancy control.
During this course, you will acquire new skills and knowledge enabling you to plan deep and repetitive dives up to 40 meters, adhering to no-decompression limits and considering your gas consumption.
Knowledge is the foundation of safe diving, especially deep diving.
During the theoretical part of this course, you will better understand the laws of physics and human physiology. We will go through hazards related to breathing compressed gas at depth, decompression theory, and illnesses to know how to avoid, recognize, or react to them.
You will learn how to use dive tables and dive computers to plan deep and repetitive dives up to 40 meters, taking into account no-decompression limits and gas consumption.
Deep diving requires the use of special equipment such as lights, maps, compasses, wet notes or slates, a cutting tool, and a buoy. During this course, you will learn how to use these essential diving accessories and how to prepare and use a safety tank to handle low-on-gas situations caused by increased gas consumption at depth.
You will also gain knowledge about different types of regulators and buoyancy compensators, as well as how to check a Save-a-Dive kit (spare parts) and a First Aid Kit with oxygen to be prepared for emergencies.
In addition to learning how to calculate gas consumption (SAC) and plan deep dives, you will gain the skills to perform:
∙ Dive briefings
∙ Pre-Dive checks
∙ Safety tank preparation
∙ Weight checks
∙ Safe descent and ascent procedures
∙ Dive site navigation
∙ Communication with your buddy using a flashlight and wet notes
∙ DSMB (Delayed Surface Marker Buoy) deployment
The first shallow dive of the course focuses on improving your position and buoyancy control.
During this dive, you will practice various movement techniques, including:
∙ Frog kick
∙ Helicopter turn
∙ Backward kick
You will also review essential diving skills such as:
∙ No-mask swim
∙ Out-of-gas procedures
∙ DSMB (buoy) deployment
In the next three deep dives (20-40 meters), you will:
∙ Practice dive navigation according to a pre-planned route
∙ Experience Boyle’s Law through flexible containers and observe the phenomenon of color absorption
∙ Assess the effects of nitrogen narcosis by performing timed underwater tasks
∙ Compare no-decompression limits on your dive computer with those of other divers
∙ Simulate decompression by breathing from a safety tank
Completing the course gives you a lifetime certificate allowing you to dive up to 40 meters with a dive buddy.
The Deep Diving specialization is a two-day course designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to safely plan and execute dives up to 40 meters.
This program is ideal for divers who wish to explore deeper waters and are already certified Open Water Divers with sufficient experience to maintain proper trim and buoyancy control.
You must hold an Open Water Diver certification to enroll in the Deep Diving specialty. However, it is recommended to refine your position and buoyancy control before starting the course—ask about a Training Dive to prepare!
In addition to learning how to plan and execute deep dives up to 40 meters while considering no-decompression limits and gas consumption, you will develop the ability to perform:
∙ Dive briefings
∙ Safety tank preparation
∙ Pre-Dive checks
∙ Weight checks
∙ Safe descent and ascent procedures
∙ Out-of-gas and lost mask procedures
∙ Dive site navigation
∙ Communication using a flashlight and wet notes
∙ DSMB (Delayed Surface Marker Buoy) deployment
The Deep Diving specialization includes 4 dives, which typically require at least 2 days of training. However, we recommend spreading the course over 3 days to allow more time for a thorough understanding and mastery of the knowledge and skills.
If you’re eager to safely explore the deeper parts of the ocean, this course is perfect for you. You’ll learn how to plan and execute deep dives up to 40 meters, considering no-decompression limits and gas consumption.
Koh Tao boasts numerous dive sites below 18 meters teeming with vibrant corals and marine life. Locations like Chumphon Pinnacle, Shark Island, and shipwrecks make ideal spots for the Deep Diving specialty.
That said, the location of your dives is less important than selecting a skilled instructor who can guide you confidently through the learning process.
I have trained several hundred divers, thanks to which I gained extensive teaching experience. Many of my students come back, and some of them never left - today they are active dive professionals.
I am a demanding instructor with attention to detail for whom the work is not finished until the student achieves a satisfactory result. Learn the art of diving at the highest level with an instructor passionate about this.
Many years of volunteering have helped me understand the value of supporting other people and the need to be understanding for others.
Let me be your underwater Angel :).
I always put safety above everything else and with my lifeguard experience you will be in good hands.
When safety is ensured - then we can have fun!
I'm so happy I got Angie as my diving instructor! She is definitely on a different level and so committed to teaching people at a high technical level. After every dive I had a better feeling of being perfectly prepared, even in difficult situations in the future. You definitely won't find that everywhere! Thank you very much Angie!
I can go on and on about all the positives that Angie brings to the table— most importantly, she is incredibly knowledgeable and makes sure to impart that knowledge to you. You can tell she loves diving and teaching, and she’s amazing at both! She made me feel safe and prepared throughout my two certifications, and her instruction has built confidence in my diving that I did not have before. Angie rocks!
Shout out to my incredible instructor Angie who is a great instructor, and most importantly made the whole diving course an amazing experience. I will keep great memories of the course and dives and look forward to doing the next-level courses with her soon!
